Life Span of a Fishtail Palm. I would estimate that the anticipated life span from germination to browning of the leaves of Caryota urens to be twenty to twenty five years. Fifteen years would be a short life. Caryota gigas has a shorter life span here in California. I’d estimate fifteen years at best before they flower.
